Selective Recruting Invitational

  • Spring Break is around the corner and that means no class, no homework and lots of time at the beach.

Or, as Laz Llanes, saw it, spring break was an opportunity to play ball!!!

Llanes runs Selective Recruiting Baseball, and next week, from Monday, March 14th through Saturday March 19th, Llanes will be holding the inaugural Selective Recruiting Invitational.

Llanes started Selective Recruiting as a way to help talented high school baseball players in South Florida realize their dreams of playing baseball in college.

Llanes takes his players on two trips over the summer to visit schools and meet with college coaches, both in and outside the state of Florida.

This summer, Llanes will take his team on an 8-day trip through Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia to visit 24 schools.

Llanes felt like there were too many players in South Florida being passed over for baseball scholarships, and he wanted to open more doors at more schools for these kids.

To complement the trips, Llanes wanted to create a local event in Dade and Broward to alleviate travel costs and expenses for teams having to travel this time of year to play and get exposure.

So Llanes went to work. And his work has paid off.

Llanes assembled a field of 16 teams from Dade, Broward and Palm Beach County to compete over Spring Break, with the championship game hosted Saturday at 1:00PM at Alex Rodriguez Field at Mark Light Stadium.

Throughout the week, games will be held from South Dade to FIU to Archbishop McCarthy in Broward.

Some of the marquee players participating include:

David Thompson, SS Westminster Christian (UM-verbal)

Julian Loret de Mola P/1B Westminster Christian (FAU)

    Ryan Harris, P Jupiter (Florida)

Brandon Sedell, C American Heritage (Florida)

Jared Mederos, SS Mater Academy (UM)

Nick Travieso, 1B/P Archbishop McCarthy (UM-verbal)

Kyle Pratts, CF Columbus (Virginia Tech)

Louis Collazo, P Columbus (Virginia Tech)

In addition to the great individual talent, Rivals.com rates five of the teams in their top 100, featuring American Heritage, Archbishop McCarthy, Columbus, Jupiter and Westminster Christian.
